Long et al. (2019) highlight dust depletion towards the inner disc region of HQ Tau, indicating the presence of a dust cavity. Assuming this cavity being produced by a companion, this means that the orbit inclination matches with the disc inclination (i.e. 53.8°), constraining the companion’s mass to about 62 MJup.

Joncour et al. (2017): HQ Tau would form a triple or quadruple system with protostar XEST08-049 and proto-brown dwarf KPNO-Tau 9 located 11,884 and 12,571 AUs away respectively. Given the distances, the latter companion would likely orbit the former about 690 AUs away.
Long et al. (2019): Estimated luminosity for HQ Tau A is 4.34 LSol.
Pouilly et al. (2024): HQ Tau likely forms a binary system with an M dwarf companion star (m = 0.465 Solar masses) in close orbit (P ∼ 767 d).
